"Bathroom situation was a no from me"
The train ride itself was fine, but one look at the washroom and I was over it. It smelled bad, there was paper all over the floor, and the sink looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. They really need to check those washrooms more often

I used VIA Rail to book a train trip i kept waiting for something annoying to happen, but it was smooth. The pages loaded quickly, the times and prices were easy to understand, and I was able to switch my seat without thinking, “Okay, where did that option go?” Checkout was straightforward too. Not much to complain about, really. Definitely beats calling in and sitting on hold.

"Prices are getting hard to justify"
I was trying to book what should’ve been a simple trip on viarail.ca, but the prices caught me off guard. Even when I checked ahead of time, the cheaper seats seemed to disappear so fast, and the regular fares were getting close to what I’d expect to pay for a flight.
I do like taking the train, so it’s frustrating when the total jumps up so much after taxes and fees. The site itself is mostly fine, but I also found the next steps a bit unclear after looking at options, like what I should do to actually get the best fare or whether waiting would make things worse. I just wish it felt more affordable and straightforward for normal travel.

"The delay wasn’t great, but they handled it well"
My train ended up being delayed, which obviously wasn’t ideal, but VIA did a good job keeping us in the loop. They gave updates fairly often, and the staff stayed calm and helpful the whole time. I was also worried about my connection, but they helped me figure it out. it was handled better than I expected.

"Thought the seats would be better"
Took VIA Rail i assumed the seats would be comfortable right away, especially for the price. The ride itself was fine, nothing too bad, but after about an hour I was already shifting around because my back started hurting. The padding felt harder than I expected and there wasn’t much leg support either. I’d probably take it again for a shorter ride, but I’d think twice before booking it for a long trip.

"Food was okay, but I’d pack snacks next time"
I took VIA Rail last week and decided to try the onboard food instead of bringing my own. As someone who usually gets way too excited about train snacks, I was a little underwhelmed. The sandwich was fine overall, just a bit dry, but it did the job.

The drinks were easy to get, and the coffee was decent enough for a train ride. That said, the prices felt a little high for what you actually get, especially with the snacks. I’m not super picky, but I did find myself thinking I could’ve grabbed something better beforehand for less.

The staff were really nice, though, and service was quick, so that definitely helped. I wouldn’t say it was a bad experience at all, just nothing memorable food-wise. Next time I’d probably bring my own food and maybe just grab a coffee onboard.

Boarding was quick, which was a nice change. The staff were polite and helpful enough, so I can’t really complain too much, just wish the whole process didn’t always feel a bit more stressful than it needs to.

"Felt less safe than I expected"
The train was late, and the platform felt a bit chaotic when I got there. The staff were fine, but the safety checks seemed rushed. The Wi-Fi kept cutting out the entire trip, and every time I tried to reconnect it felt like I was begging for something that should’ve just worked. it made the ride way more frustrating than it needed to be.
